June Carroll

Born in Canada but moved to England as a child and grew up in Surrey, June's career as a children's nanny took her to London where, in her spare time, she studied screen printing at the Camden Institute.  She moved to Essex in 1978 and, inspired by a television about machine embroidery, began more creative work which led eventually to enrolment for City and Guilds Embroidery parts I and II at Chelmsford College.  She completed this in 1993.  June then became a founder member of the Chelmsford 93 group and two years later of EAST.  She exhibits regularly with both groups.

June's current interest focusts on maps, seeing how towns have developed and what was there first - brickworks, clay pits, even sewage works - the original brown field sites!

"Much of my work is modular.  The units are stitched together to make a whole.  The work may contain computer printed images, Grilon thread, various fabrics including paper, hand stitching and paint.
