About EAST
East Anglian Stitch Textiles (EAST) was formed in 1995 in response to a demand for a self-supporting framework for local artists in the southern half of East Anglia, UK.
The membership of this group commenced with ten artists and now has sixteen.
The group is mentored by Anthea Godfrey, until recently Principal Lecturer at the London College of Fashion and previous Chairman of the Embroiderer's Guild.
We meet at least nine times a year when we discuss organisation of futre exhibitions and other events, plus share information about exhibitions etc. We occasionally have visiting tutors and sometimes run workshops for the group from the membership. We also arrange group outings and try and keep up to date with what is going on in the textile world.
Our exhibitions have always started at Braintree Museum, where the group meets, and then move on to other venues around the country. We have been invited to exhibit at the Knitting and Stitching Shows in Alexandra Palace and Harrogate on several occasions. A new exhibition tour commences on a bi-annual basis.
What makes this group's work special is their success in combining a range of exciting techniques with thought provoking themes. As a result an EAST exhibition evokes powerful reactions from its audience.
Several members of the group are also available for workshops and talks - either on an individual or a group basis. See the Warner page for more information about our group talk.
The picture below shows the TALKING TEXTILES exhibition - at Braintree Museum Gallery, in autumn 2010 - click on our Gallery section of the website for pictures of previous exhibitions.

Membership of the EAST group is by application and selection. We currently have sixteen members and will not be taking applications for new members at present. If you want further information about the group, or information on how to join our waiting list contact the EAST Secretary by email - secretary@easttextile.co.uk (putting the word EAST at the beginning of the subject line of your email), or by post (enclosing an SAE):
